The knee atlas
Evidence, interpretation & safety
Representative examination regions, not fixed trigger-point coordinates. Deep muscles are shown as projected cutaway layers. Referred-pain patterns vary; matching a map does not establish a diagnosis.
Content paraphrased from the supplied Travell & Simons’ Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual, 3rd edition (2019), chapters 58–61 and 65. Original schematic illustrations. Henry et al., 2012 reported myofascial tenderness alongside knee disease in a small observational study; this does not validate each map or establish causation.
A hot, swollen knee, fever, inability to bear weight after trauma, or new unilateral calf swelling needs medical assessment. Calf swelling with chest pain or breathlessness needs emergency care. This is not a needling or injection guide.
